I remember men were gaining weight on purpose in the early 2000s. Then, they were reasoning it like this: if a man has a belly, I means that he is an influential person. In general, excesses were in vogue: everyone was smoking and consuming alcohol.

And then, all of a sudden, everyone rushed to the gyms. I was looking at such people with a smile. I led a healthy lifestyle as long as I can remember. Since I was five years old, I was engaged in swimming. I never thought that I needed to control weight, and I was neither thin, nor stout.

At the age of twenty, I became friends with a nutritionist. Once, jokingly, I said: “What if I will also try to lose weight with you!” And she jokingly replied: “Let’s do it! What are you ready to refuse: meat or cereal?” I refused cereal. In three months, I lost weight, maybe by a couple of kilograms – and I literally hated meat.

Then we understood our mistake:

You don’t have to lead a perfectly healthy lifestyle, but it should be regular both in its “healthy” and in its “unhealthy” part. It is impossible not to use any facial creams, not to have cosmetic treatments, not to exercise for years, and then rub yourself with everything head to toes, split a gut in the gym and hope to become Cindy Crawford.

Same works for unhealthy food: you just need to eat less of it (and generally you need to eat less). If everyone at the party eats, I will not huff and puff that I do not eat after 6 PM. I will have a little of something, without going to extremes. I simply do not want all this at the physiological level. I’m used to having a hearty lunch at four or five in the evening and easily go without dinner.

I began accustoming my ex. to the regime in a gradual way, mildly. Without dictatorship. I suggested: “If you want to eat in the evening, eat less in the afternoon. And if you want to eat as much as you are used to have – bear in mind that our kitchen closes at seven in the evening.” Until he realized, which is the most comfortable option for him.

Lately, I began cooking more at home (I want to see the raw product, check its quality) and just plain food, without sauces, gravies, with a minimum of spices. My ex. liked it. Well, he did nit to salt his portions separately: I have refused salt long time ago.

As a child, I had some chicken and collapsed with an allergy to it. Doctors prescribed me hormone injections and violated my metabolism. I never ate much, but at the peak, my weight reached 158 kg, with a height of 185 cm.

Several years ago, I decided to lose weight. I wanted to wear fashionable clothes – from YSL and Tom Ford suits to ordinary jeans, but I could not. In addition, my life was deprived of the beach vacations and water sports.

I gave up alcohol for a year and a half, limited myself in foods. The good thing was that I was free of business and nothing distracted me at that time. I managed to lose 60 kg back then. Then, I opened a restaurant, and you need to taste the dishes and have a drink or two in the evenings with the customers, so it was difficult to maintain the weight.

When we started dating in April 2013, I weighed 105 kg. I subconsciously got interested with her lifestyle. You want to look better when your girlfriend is a beauty. Watching her rituals, I bought the face caring products for myself to cleanse the skin (tonics, gels).

Then, we went to the cosmetologist. I asked them to make me the same facial mask that they were making to my girlfriend. Only after this I asked what it was for and what it was made of. I enjoyed taking part in everything that she was doing – from taking care of myself to kitesurfing and downhill skiing (in the mountains I usually boozed, and never skied before).

Then, my ex introduced me to a cosmetologist. I visit her for laser lipolysis:

I was spending an hour and a half at the gym three times a week. And most importantly – I began eating regularly and more at home. I enjoyed buckwheat porridge, meat with prunes and cottage cheese pancakes. On the way home, I buy what I need for dinner, and there’s nothing left in the fridge that could lead me into temptation before bedtime.

By the way, about the cottage cheese pancakes: I’m proud that I was able to improve something in my ex’s way of life. We just moved into a new apartment with new utensils, and forgot to buy a frying pan. She made the pancakes in the oven – it was an even lighter dish. From that moment, she cooks them just like that.

I did not lose weight immediately, but I definitely noticed how my body changed, the weight left my stomach area and spread evenly. And Tom Ford suit looked great on me.

DIETITIAN’S VIEW

Losing weight, or rather, eating properly is always more pleasant, when done together. Common interests bring together. The main thing is not to impose anything on the partner and choose a diet based on the attention to the person’s needs and desires, and not on despotism (the secret of the success in a relationship, in fact, is the same).

There is just one thing that I advise my patients to avoid – eating pork every day. As for the rest, I bring up respect for their stomach and taste for food. You do not like lentils and broccoli? Try to cook a delicious meal of them. You will be proud of yourself, and your second half may have a new favorite dish.
